The therapeutic journey
Making changes for the better can be simple as making a decision.
The therapeutic journey is simply about making a decision, changing and growing.
Every change starts with a conscious decision to want to change and grow. Otherwise, it’s just wishing that the world will change for you, which is not very empowering and probably will get you nowhere.
Change may be voluntary or forced on you. A broken relationship may be voluntary or forced. Your role as a parent may change. Changing jobs, an illness, moving to a new place, retrenchment and retirement can all trigger changes that may not be voluntary.
Typically, each person goes through a period of transition, but each will go through it in different ways. How well you undergo a transition can affect your physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Transition is the journey of change, your destination. You can decide to change, develop a plan, take the first step, then the next, and the next, and see your life take a turn for the better.
Sometimes this transforming journey is tough, because the challenges posed by the circumstances of your life are tough.
I won’t be able to change you or your environment, but I can journey with you. Everyone’s journey is different. It may suddenly become easier, or it may be hard for a while. Easy or hard, you are not alone and you don’t have to be alone.
